Dreary November Comics

Actually, November's been ok so far.

Hi friends! I’ve been using this Substack to post some Bob Dylan comics, and some old comics from my art school drawing book, but today I’m sharing some new comics from my current sketchbook. I made it back to Calgary for a small and cozy birthday party with a friend who’s the same age as me…

…and I made it over to The Sprawl’s new Calgary office! It’s in a basement full of printing equipment!

These days, The Sprawl has been having fun with some hands-on printing projects. This is me, learning to operate the letterpress!!

All this reminds me of this page I drew in my old drawing book (you can see more pages from it, here). Back when I was a student at OCAD (now OCAD University), I did a little printmaking - something I really liked learning about. But I think I had even more fun drawing about printmaking, than making the actual prints.

Well, I drew that page back in the late 90s. Now it’s 2023, and it’s November…

I went for a walk with my son’s class. I wonder if The Sprawl streetlight zine project made me look particularly closely at the streetlights?

And now it’s today. I made it through the day, hooray! Hope you did, too!
