Hello, and welcome back to The Drawing Book! This is where I post stories from my old sketchbook journal series.
Last week I shared the story of a romantic voyage and a break-up that broke my heart. I was wondering what I’d do after that, since the break-up was followed by a break in my journalling. In fact, I’ll show you what one of the next drawing book pages looked like:
Spoiler: Yes, I did get back to the drawing book, and there are still many more comics that lie ahead. But just at this spot, there was a pause.
And maybe it’s good timing for a pause, because it turns out that I’m just too busy to write a newsletter today! I am working on a project with a fast-approaching deadline, and there is just no time. So, the drawing book will have to wait till next week (fingers crossed… it might have to wait a couple of weeks, to be honest. We’ll see how this goes!). In the meantime, at least I can let you know about the project that’s keeping me busy.
Last year, the City of Calgary partnered with Calgary Arts Development to engage some artists to create art that would be displayed on a series of Calgary Transit buses! Here’s some information about the project, and here is a picture of how one of the 2024 buses turned out.
The project was so successful, that they decided to do it again this year. I’m thrilled to have been chosen as one of the Art Bus artists. The new Art Buses will be revealed in June 2025!
But now, I have to get that bus artwork done! So, I’m sorry to miss you this week. Hopefully by next week, I’ll be caught up, and ready to share another newsletter. If you need a comic strip this week, and you haven’t seen this already, please check out one of my favourite comics ever, the Calgary-Transit-fleet-inspired series “Ride of the Day,” created in 2023 for The Sprawl and co-written with my son Alec, who knows a thing or two about buses.
Have a good week and a safe ride. See you again soon!
